Overview

General Pediatrician – Division of Emergency Medicine

Children’s Mercy Kansas City is seeking general pediatricians to work as pediatric associates in emergency medicine.  The duties of this position are primarily clinical with administrative and educational/scholarly components integrated into the practice.  Physicians will staff clinical shifts at both our Adele Hall and Kansas ED locations, and have the opportunity to serve on hospital and section committees to support quality improvement and other initiatives.

There are 110,000 annual visits to our two locations (65,000 urban and 45,000 suburban). Support services include a critical care transport team, nurse practitioners, child life specialists, social workers, chaplains, pharmacists and respiratory therapists.  Both locations also have bedside ultrasound availability.

The Tom Watson Pediatric Emergency Department is a community-based pediatric emergency department located in Overland Park, KS.  It is the only pediatric emergency service provider that is supported by every pediatric medicine/surgical subspecialist in the southern half of metropolitan Kansas City.

The Adele Hall Pediatric Emergency Department is the only level 1 pediatric ED and level 1 pediatric trauma center in a 150-county region in Missouri and Kansas.  Our urban ED includes 39 exam rooms, with multiple trauma rooms and in-suite radiology/CT.  We offer a “fast-track” area staffed by nurse practitioners and an ED-based clinic designed to improve the care of children with abscesses including optimal sedation/analgesia.

Children’s Mercy Kansas City is an independent, non-profit, 390-bed pediatric health system, providing over half a million patient encounters each year for children from across the country. Children’s Mercy is ranked by U.S. News & World Report in all ten specialties. We have received Magnet® recognition five times for excellence in nursing services. In affiliation with the University of Missouri-Kansas City and the University of Kansas, our faculty of nearly 800 pediatric specialists and researchers are actively involved in clinical care, pediatric research and educating the next generation of pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists.

The Children’s Mercy Research Institute (CMRI) integrates research and clinical care with nationally recognized expertise in genomic medicine, precision therapeutics, population health and health care innovation. In 2021, the CMRI moved into a nine story, 375,000 square foot space emphasizing a translational approach to research in which clinicians and researchers work together to accelerate the pace of discovery that enhances care.
