The Division houses the Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect (SCAN) team, the Foundations Foster Care Clinic, and regional and community-based prevention and therapy programs. The SCAN team evaluates over 2000 children annually for possible maltreatment and serves as the medical component for 8 Children’s Advocacy Centers in the bi-state region.

A Pediatric Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner team provides 24/7 coverage for acute sexual assault and is under medical direction of the Division. The Division includes a robust and successful research program, multiple externally funded prevention programs, and significant collaborative advocacy efforts across the region. Faculty are expected to develop areas of expertise based on interest and skill set, then work with the Division leadership to grow those skills and impact. Opportunities for personal growth exist in all areas of work within the Division. Faculty have ample opportunities for providing hospital-based and community education, including the Child Abuse Pediatrics and combined Child Abuse Pediatrics-Pediatrics Emergency Medicine fellowships at Children’s Mercy, which currently includes 4 fellows.

The successful applicant must share our unwavering commitment to excellence, integrity, collegiality, antiracism, and respect for inclusion of individuals with diverse backgrounds.
