Overview

The Division of Orthopedics is seeking an APRN to join our Inpatient Team at the Adele Hall location. This role is designed to support both inpatient orthopedic care and outpatient clinic responsibilities, with a particular clinic focus on assisting our oncology/ortho tumor surgeon.

 

Inpatient Responsibilities (0.6 FTE):

  • Participate in daily patient care rounds and collaborate with orthopedic surgeons and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Manage primary orthopedic patients, including post-operative care, trauma cases, and complex musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures, analyze and prioritize clinical data, develop differential diagnoses, and implement evidence-based plans of care.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for residents and collaborate with subspecialties such as oncology, hospital medicine, intensive care, infectious disease, and rehabilitation.
  • Provide patient and family education, contribute to multidisciplinary care conferences, and ensure timely and thorough documentation.
  • Assist in management with consults from the hospital medicine and other inpatient units via the orthopedic inpatient pager/Ascom phone.

Clinic Responsibilities (0.4 FTE):

  • Support the oncology/ortho tumor surgeon in outpatient clinic settings, including pre-operative assessments, history and physicals, post-operative follow-ups, and ongoing management of oncology-related orthopedic conditions.
  • Assist with coordination of care with Orthopaedic Complex Care APRN, patient education, and documentation within the clinic environment.
  • Collaborate with surgical and medical oncology teams to ensure continuity of care across inpatient and outpatient settings.

This position offers a dynamic blend of inpatient and outpatient responsibilities, ideal for an APRN seeking a collaborative and impactful role within a high-acuity orthopedic and oncology environment.

 

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses II (APRN-II) provides proficient, comprehensive, evidence-based advanced practice nursing to address the physiologic, psychosocial, and developmental needs of patients and families within the framework of the collaborative practice agreement. An APRN II obtains a comprehensive health history; performs physical examination; formulates a plan of care and treatment; prescribes/performs diagnostic and therapeutic interventions and procedures; and participates in patient and family education. Each APRN-II demonstrates professional leadership and participates in evidenced-based practice, quality improvement, and/or research activities, and organizational development.

- Organizational Development: influences organizational policy in order to achieve and sustain practice improvements and strategic initiatives.

Qualifications

  • PNP Acute Care required upon hire
  • Master's Degree and 1-2 years experience 1-2 years pediatric APRN experience with Masters. Exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis within preferred specialty. or
  • Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) - preferred and 1-2 years experience 1 year pediatric APRN experience. Exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis within preferred specialty.
  • Licensed RN - Kansas, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas required upon hire
  • Licensed RN - MO, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri required upon hire
  • RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO
  • APRN board certification congruent with population and practice setting (see policy statement: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Roles and Practice Setting) Required Upon Hire
  • Successful completion of national board certification in one of the following: Certified Nurse Midwife OR Required Upon Hire
  • OR Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP) in MO & KS Required Upon Hire
  • OR Certified Clinical Nurse Specialist Required Upon Hire
  • Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire
  • Specialty Certification relevant to unit’s patient population (determined by Nurse Manager/Director) Preferred
