Overview

The Neonatology Division at Children’s Mercy Hospital Kansas City is seeking board-certified or board-eligible Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNPs) to join our team providing high-quality clinical care in the Level III NICU at Mercy Springfield Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.

 

This is a busy and diverse practice serving a broad patient population from across southwestern Missouri. The NNP role includes collaborative practice with neonatologists and multidisciplinary team members, with opportunities to manage complex neonatal patients in a supportive, team-based environment.

 

In addition to excellence in clinical care, preferred candidates will demonstrate an interest in professional development, education, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement initiatives. Opportunities exist for participation in unit-based projects and educational activities that support ongoing growth and advancement.

 

The Neonatology Division comprises 40 neonatologists with a wide range of clinical and scholarly interests, fostering a collaborative culture where NNPs are valued integral members of the care team. This structure allows for mentorship, professional support, and individualized career pathways.

Teleconferencing enables NNPs at the Springfield site to participate in Children’s Mercy Kansas City educational offerings, conferences, and division meetings. Neonatology colleagues in Kansas City are readily accessible for consultation, collaboration, and shared learning.

Responsibilities

- Utilizes the nursing process to develop and implement a comprehensive plan of care for the patient/family which promotes optimal patient outcomes.
- Serves as a clinical resource for the education and consultation needs of the health care team.
- Meets the educational needs of patient/family, utilizing principles of teaching/learning.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree MSN required and 3-5 years experience Neonatal RN experience. Exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis within preferred specialty.
  • Other DNP preferred and 3-5 years experience Neonatal RN experience. Exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis within preferred specialty.
  • One of the following: Licensed RN - MO, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri required upon hire
  • One of the following: Licensed RN - Kansas, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas required upon hire
  • Certified Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
  • RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO
  • Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire
  • Specialty Certification relevant to unit’s patient population (determined by Nurse Manager/Director) Preferred Upon Hire
  • APRN board certification congruent with population and practice setting (see policy statement: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Roles and Practice Setting) Required Upon Hire
